EightyOneSpices welcomes Pete Smith as brand ambassador
We welcome on board Pete Smith as a brand ambassador! Pete has been in the racing scene for a long time. In fact since the very early days of mountainbikes after he moved across from racing motorcycles. In 1990 Pete raced both XC and downhill and had a very successful year of racing winning both Queensland's Sunshine Series and BIKESTYLE Series with the icing on the cake coming shortly after claiming an Australian National Elite Downhill title. In the late 90's Pete took a step back from racing and opened a bike shop in Brisbane. During those years, he used his time outside of running the store to to coach and mentor up and coming junior racers, commentate at local and National events as well as being the Team Mechanic for Team GT Australia. Being in the Australian Defence Force, Pete had the opportunity to take up cycling at a competitive level again and in 2013 took part in the ADF Australian National Cycling Championships. He won both the Cross Country Olympic and Cross Country Eliminator, and then placed third in the Downhill event. In 2016 he took up Gravity Enduro being attracted to its requirement for endurance over several hours and its gravity / downhill component of skill and speed. In 2017 Pete found himself on the podium several times and took out the 2017 Australian National Gravity Enduro Championships at Fox Creek in Masters 5 category. 2018 saw Pete follow the National Gravity Enduro Cup, winning three of the four rounds taking home the overall win for the series, as well as again taking home the title of 2018 Australian National Gravity Enduro Champion in Masters 5 category. We are honored to have Pete on board with some of our best products. He’ll be sporting Formula, Syntace and SQlab equipment on his bikes. We wish him all the best for the 2019 season in Gravity Enduro and look forward to seeing him sneak out to a couple of the Downhill rounds along the way. Welcome Pete!
