What sealant do you use?

Tune recognise that “going tubeless” isn’t just about a product. It’s about a solution. A selection of products that work seamlessly together, no matter what your discipline, your setup or your riding style. So they didn’t just come out with an innovative new sealant, instead rethinking the tubeless system to offer a sealant, valve and tape range that work together to create a fast acting, long shelf life, safe to install and incredibly reliable tubeless system for any bike.

So now, thanks to Tune’s innovative tubeless solution, you can have your cake, and eat it too!

Sealants have traditionally either been fast at sealing, or they have a long reaction time and short service life.

Not anymore. Tune’s One Shot sealant re-writes the rulebook on tubeless systems. Their completely unique formula is ammonium and latex free, for both quick and effective sealing, but also a long shelf-life!

One Shot Sealant is optimised for use in tubeless road and mountainbike tires to provide a reliable seal and protection against punctures, small cuts and tubeless rim leaks, without the chemical reactions having an adverse affect on the tire, tube or rim. One Shot can also be used in all tubes with removable presta valve cores, including latex tubes and also tubular tires.

Stable at a huge range of temperatures (-10C to 80C), Tune’s One Shot sealant remains effective on average for between 9 and 12 months, depending on your local conditions and the amount of sealant used.

Because Tune understand what riders really need, their One Shot sealant comes in 3 handy sizes:

  • 60ml handy jersey bottle, refillable

  • 120ml perfect for setting up two tyres, refillable

  • 1000ml workshop bottle

The 60ml and 120ml bottles even come with their own handy valve core tool, stored on the bottom of the container.

How easy is Tune One Shot sealant to use? Take a look!

Because not all wheels are created equal, Tunes Aluminium Valve Stems are cleverly designed to maximise the seal on any rim.

Using their innovative conical rubber plug, they’re able to achieve a much better seal where other valves distort due to the profile of the rim. Particularly with narrow road and gravel rims where higher pressures also compound the issue, Tunes Aluminium Valve Stems excel.

Combined with a knurled tension nut featuring an O-Ring for extra seal, and available in three handy lengths (35mm, 44mm and 60mm) to suit any rim on the market, Tunes Aluminium Valve Stems are the most versatile yet functional valve in the industry.

But what’s function without some bling, right? Tunes Aluminium Valve Stems are available in 8 different anodised colours - black, blue, red, gold, orange, green, silver and foggy green. So you can make sure function doesn’t come at the expense of fashion on that slick ride of yours.

What is more, in Tunes own words, “Kleinvieh macht auch Mist” which directly translates to “Little cattle also do manure”. Did we just hear you ask “What now?” Well, it means that all these little bits of bling on your bike add up, in terms of weight. So at just 4g, your Tune Aluminium Valve Stems are helping by not adding unnecessary weight to your bike.

Just like we said, now you can have your cake and eat it too. A long lasting, fast sealing, light and simple tubeless system.

Generally, when people have issues with their tubeless system not sealing, it’s got something to do with their rim tape. Sometimes it’s because they’ve used duct or strapping tape, other times it’s ill fitting, poorly applied tubeless tape. But Tune have found a better way, because they recognise that if your tape doesn’t fit right, stick right and stand the test of time, it’s not going to seal properly!

Made with natural adhesive mass, and available in seven convenient widths, increasing from 18mm to 30mm in just 2mm increments, there’s a Tune Rim Tape to suit every wheel size.

Tune Rim Tape features extreme tear resistance, even once stretched over the rim, thanks to Tunes higher stretch capacity. This also helps to maintain the tapes shape, avoiding distortion during installation that causes leaks around the side of the tape. Add to this, the tape’s high temperature resistance, both for hot and cold, strong abrasion resistance and a very high adhesion capacity, the tape stays where it needs to, to do it’s job, but is easily removed when it’s time to redo your tubeless setup, leaving no residue to clean off.

Tune Rim Tape is available in the following widths:

  • 18mm

  • 20mm

  • 22mm

  • 24mm

  • 26mm

  • 28mm

  • 30mm

It also comes in an 11m roll length, to cover approximately 5 x 29er wheels, or a mammoth 66m workshop roll that’ll cover around 30 x 29er wheels. And at just 5-7g per wheel, Tune’s saying “Little cattle also do manure” rings true, it won’t add unnecessary weight to your beloved steed.

How do I use One Shot tire sealant?

The easiest way to use the TUNE ONE SHOT tire sealant is with the 60 ml bottle. The tire valve can be opened with the integrated valve tool from the bottle bottom. The sealant can then be simply inserted into the tire through the valve.

Re-fit the valve core, pump up and away you go. The 120 ml bottle is great for a complete bike, and the 1 ltr bottle is great for topping up either 60 ml or 120 ml bottles to take as a backup on rides.

Why does my tire not seal properly with One Shot sealant?

There could be many reasons for this but the two main reasons usually are:

  1. The tire hasn’t been cleaned properly beforehand.

Often there are still substance residues in the tire, for example release agents, which prevent the sealing. In order to get the best possible result, we always recommend cleaning the tire with soapy water and to scrub the inside with a brush. For the tire to seal correctly, it should be free of any dirt and release agent particles.

After cleaning, leave the tire to dry completely. Firmly shake the bottle before use. When filling, please beware our recommended quantities. Do not mix the ONE-SHOT sealant with other products as the One Shot will be diluted!

The installation with a compressor simplifies the „setting“ of the tire bead but is not always necessary. The tire must seat properly on the rim shoulder. A compressor and also soap water can help with this if it does not seat easily. For a better distribution of the liquid, swirl it well back and forth within the tire. Then inflate the tires to the desired pressure. After 24 hours, check the pressure again.

  1. The rim tape does not seal properly.

To install the rim tape, the rim must be grease-free. For this, clean the rim in advance with a bit of alcohol. Only then fit the rim tape to the rim.

Our Hack: Insert a tube into the tire after fitting the rim tape . Inflate the tube and leave it for 15 minutes. Thanks to the pressure of the tube, the rim tape will be pressed perfectly against the rim bottom with high pressure.

Both rim tape and the valves need to be assembled properly according to our instructions. To do so you can watch the following video.

Is it possible to use the sealant in tubular tires? Yes it is possible to use the sealant in tubular tires. Is it possible to use the sealant in latex tubes? Yes it is possible to use the sealant in latex tubes. How much One Shot do I use in a road tire? It is not easy to estimate the exact quantity of sealant needed for a road tire. Too much sealant means unnecessary extra weight, too little sealant and it may not seal sufficiently. We recommend therefor to experiment a little to find out what amount suits your personal setup. The amount may vary considerably according to the tire model and size.

Is One Shot suited to the high pressures run in road tires?

One Shot is suitable for use in road tires. However, the newer higher volume size tires (25mm, 28mm or now even 30mm) lend themselves far better due to the lower pressures required to run them (60 - 100psi). Traditional 23mm tires may struggle to seal tires effectively at higher pressures. Can I use CO2 cartridges? One Shot sealant is compatible with CO2 cartridges. Is it possible to use ONE SHOT under -10°C? We specify -10°C / 14°F as the coldest application temperature for the One Shot sealant. One Shot is functional up to this limit, and even beyond up to -17°C / 1°F, but here the service life may decrease due to the increase in viscosity. How can I remove the One Shot from the tire and dispose of it? One Shot is biodegradable and environmentally friendly. It can be removed completely and easily with the help of warm water, some soap and a brush. Which Tune rims are tubeless suited?
